Imperial Scribes!

Postby DaveBot of Despair » Sun Mar 07, 2010 2:33 pm

Let there be a new NPC at the Governor's hall called the Imperial Scribe.

The Imperial Scribe gives you a quest for each boss, asking you to slay it and return with something from it (Like GSS/Soul/Heart/Skull/Emerald/etc)

When this quest is completed, the imperial scribe writes tales of your adventures and spreads the word across the lands.... for a costly fee.

Upon completion, you immediately gain an instant bonus amount of prestige AND an amount of LIFETIME PRESTIGE.

LIFETIME PRESTIGE is a new concept. Everyone starts with LIFETIME Pres of 0.. and their normal Pres decays to their Lifetime pres. But quests which result in people writing your exploits into books result in small amounts of prestige that lasts forever. This adds to your lifetime prestige, so even if you go away for an extended period, your prestige will only decay to the level of your lifetime pres. So if your lifetime pres is say 200, you can rest assured no matter how long you are gone it will be 200 when you return. In addition, instead of decaying by 1% of the total, its now 1% of the (total-lifetime level)... so it also decays slower.

In addition to Boss Slaying quests, the Imperial Scribe also gives out quests that require you to reach a certain amount of normal pres. For instance, there will be a quest for "Legend" level prestige, where he will write about your exploits as a Legendary hero, increasing your lifetime prestige. Again, this will cost a fee, but it will be a lot cheaper and raise your lifetime prestige by a lot more, since high amounts of normal pres are required and are harder to obtain than the boss slaying quests.

Each quest can only be done once, so there is a limit to how high your lifetime prestige can go (preferably around 300). And the gold costs will be quite high to serve as a gold sink of sorts.

Yes, the cost for many of them are quite high, and some even require extremely valuable items to be handed in. But if most are done, the prestige level will never decay below rank 3 guilding.

The costs of them are way too high. Prestige is not that valuable. Honestly after a guild hits 15k stige, there is no need to get any more, just maintain that. I just dont think anybody would want to even mess with it. I know I wouldn't. :p

quests are good, but annoying/pointless requirements are not. goldsink just for the point of having a goldsink?

i also like the idea of small quests, that way you always/constantly feel like progress or levelling up. one major quest doesn't have as much satisfaction because you only get rewarded once.

this is where games like WoW are helpful and have a good progression/structure, eg when you level up you get an extra 5 (max) points of skill in weapons, but those skill points take time to increase via use.
